A Portrait Made Just for You
Cheryl North Coughlan accepts a small number of custom ceramic commissions each year — portrait sculptures of beloved pets, animals, or characters built to order in her Joseph, Oregon studio.
Each commission is hand-built in stoneware, fired in an electric kiln, and glazed with the same attention and care as every piece in the studio. No two are alike. No two could be.
What Cheryl makes on commission:
Pet portraits are the most requested — dogs especially, though cats, horses, and other animals are welcome. If you have an animal with a personality worth capturing in clay, that's enough to start with.
How it works:
You share photos — several angles, good lighting if possible — along with anything you want Cheryl to know about your animal's personality, quirks, or the things that make them unmistakably themselves. The more you tell her, the more she has to work with. A name, a habit, a look they give you. All of it helps
Cheryl works from photos and her own instincts. The result will be recognizable, but it will also be art — her interpretation of your animal, not a reproduction.
Pricing:
Commissions are priced based on size and complexity.
- Small figure (under 8 inches): starting at $350
- Medium figure (8–12 inches): starting at $500
- Large figure (12–18 inches): starting at $750
A 50% deposit is required to begin. The balance is due before shipping. Commissions typically take 6–10 weeks from deposit to completion, depending on Cheryl's current studio schedule.
